Taking Viagra After a Heart Attack

There are few health problems as dreaded as the heart attack. Occurring suddenly, this acute condition puts your life at great risk, so it is only natural that people would want to prevent it from happening. To better understand heart attacks and their effects, you should know that this is not a randomly occurring condition and is usually preceded by a history of heart disease or related problems. When a heart attack occurs, blood flow halts to a certain part of the heart, causing great damage.

Symptoms of a heart attack are generally very recognizable. The first and clearest sign of a heart attack is severe chest pain, which can be accompanied by heartburn, shortness of breath, and pain that spreads to the neck and torso. When a heart attack occurs, the subject should receive urgent medical care because every minute spent without treatment causes more damage to the heart.

Treatment includes a range of first-response and long-term actions like administration of aspirin and nitroglycerine, thrombolysis, and eventual cardiac rehabilitation. While most people know what to do when a heart attack occurs, they are unclear of what is allowed for the patient once the problem has been addressed. Many heart attack patients write off sex due to the physical strain and danger it poses, but a recent study has shown that they should not be so swift in this judgement.

A team of researchers from the American College of Cardiology conducted a study to see if sex really was dangerous for those who had previously experienced a heart attack. To get their results, they engaged with approximately 536 patients who had experienced the condition before. The first step of their research included an interview where the patients provided information about their lifestyle and routine in the months, weeks, days, and hours before their heart attack occurred. In the stretch of months, fifteen percent of patients did not have sex altogether, while twenty-five percent had it once a week.

More than half of patients has sex more than once a week before their heart attack. This may seem like proof of the dangers of sex in heart disease patients, but the statistics on patients activity hours before heart attack paints a completely different picture. Less than one percent of patients had sex within an hour of their attack, and three-fourths of those polled stated that they had sex more than 24 hours before said attack. As the physical strain from sex is not known to last very long, this easily disproves the theory mentioned above. In fact, the same researchers found that most sexual encounters require the same amount of physical exertion as walking up a flight of steps, which is something most of us do every day. Further research showed no links between sex and the many negative health experiences heart attack patients experienced from time to time.

The results and implications of this study are quite clear. Heart attack patients can carry on with their sex life as before if they feel physically fit for these activities. However, they should still be cautious and careful with their health, getting the proper treatment after a heart attack and taking medication if prescribed. It should be mentioned that this medication is sometimes known to cause erectile dysfunction, greatly inhibiting sexual activity.

However, there is a simple solution available to those men who want to keep having sex despite their heart ailments – Viagra. Viagra increases blood flow to the penis and eliminates the factors inhibiting erection. This is a popular choice sold in stores and online pharmacies. Many men even opt for generic Viagra, which has the same effect as the original but is more affordable. You should keep in mind that heart attack is a serious risk factor, and consulting a doctor before resuming sexual activity with Viagra is always a good idea.
